Bio: David Fleischer is the Brazil Country Director at the Inter-American Foundation, and works directly with indigenous peoples and quilombola communities. Prior to IAF, he was the Assistant Director of the Lemann Institute for Brazilian Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Executive Director of the Brazilian Studies Association. He has also worked as a consultant for the Global Environmental Facility and the United Nations Development Programme in Brazil. He has a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from the University at Albany-State University of New York and an MA and BA in Social Anthropology from the University of Brasilia. He has conducted research in environmental conservation and community development projects in Brazil and Mexico.
