Terry Redding (MA, U South Florida, 1998) was working for a nonprofit organization on a USAID-funded maternal and child health project that was DOGEd (i.e., summarily canceled) within the first few weeks of the second Trump administration. He is currently an evaluation and communications consultant. He has served on many anthropological organization committees and currently is the membership committee chair for WAPA. He has authored and written chapters for various applied anthropology publications. Most recently he co-edited, with the late Charles C. Cheney, “Profiles of Anthropological Praxis: An International Casebook” (Berghahn Books, 2022).

The federal ax slices anthropology too, so what now?

Although it seems much longer, it was only a year or so ago that the federal government started wiping out grants, employment and positions, long-standing policies and agreements, committees, groups, and entire agencies. Those who read beforehand the Project 2025 report would have had some inkling of what was to come, but the speed and scale of the demolition has been breathtakingly tragic.
