The Issue: We know that most anthropology programs could do a better job of preparing their students for practice. But in what specific ways? Group 1 set out to find out, using a Delphi survey to learn from practitioners what they thought was missing in their training.
Data/Diagnosis: We had nearly 500 responses from 34 practitioners to two survey questions:
- What was missing from your training which would have helped you to find a job?
- What was missing from your training which would have helped you in your current job?
Insights: Most of what was reported to be missing is not part of existing anthropology programs. Acquiring proficiency in an array of methods, along with the ability to communicate anthropology’s value to others, emerged as the key findings. A second round of questions is in the works.
Final Products: Reports for Delphi analysis Round 1 and Round 2.
