The Issue: We know that a variety of organizations exists to support anthropology and anthropological training, including student groups, professional associations, and funding bodies. Other groups, such as internship organizations, play an important role as well. Group 5 took as its charge to collect information on as many of these groups as possible, and to investigate their support role(s) and the ways in which existing support can be improved.

Data/Diagnosis:  A survey is underway of anthropology clubs and student groups in U.S. colleges and universities.  Secondary research involves the compilation of resources and best practices related to internships, funding organizations, and professional organizations.

Insights:  Anthropology programs do not typically identify employment opportunities for practitioners.  Occasionally some practice jobs are posted (e.g., in museums), though they do not represent the breadth of opportunities in which current practitioners work.
