The Commission’s efforts have been focused on several workstreams. Each follows a four-phase process—from brainstorming ideas to discovering gaps in training, and from developing recommendations to address problems to implementing and using those recommendations in anthropology programs.
This group collected information from practitioners about what was missing in their academic programs that would have helped to get a job and excel in it.
This group seeks to identify, collect, and annotate existing resources into a repository that is oriented to practice (e.g., articles, syllabi, podcasts).
This group is collecting practitioner narratives by sector (e.g., government, non-profit, medical, business) and gathering insights on hiring practices.
This group is conducting research with anthropology departments that have implemented practice into their programs to understand what has been successful and unsuccessful.
This group is exploring the ways in which student groups, internship organizations, professional associations, and funding organizations can play a stronger role in practitioner training.
This group plans on crafting future scenarios of anthropological work in practice. It has begun envisioning future worlds of work along with the kinds of training and support that will be necessary.
This group is conducting interviews and short focus groups with a variety of practitioners.
